HOTEL ROCHEOUART PARIS

INSIDE

CHECKING-IN

Set at the lively crossroads of the 9th arrondissement, Hôtel Rochechouart is a Parisian icon with a story to tell. Sitting just moments from the foot of Montmartre, the hotel’s Art Deco façade hints at the glamour within — a nod to its 1920s heritage when artists, writers and musicians filled the neighbourhood with creative energy.

Check-in is smooth and welcoming, with staff striking a friendly, relaxed tone that feels in keeping with the area’s creative spirit. The lobby leans into vintage Parisian charm, with curved lines, rich hues and nostalgic details that reflect the building’s history. It’s clear the hotel has recently undergone a facelift, aiming to bridge old-world character with a more contemporary edge — though expectations should be set accordingly.

STEP INSIDE

We stayed in the penthouse suite, and if it’s within budget, this is where Hôtel Rochechouart truly shines. Offering far more space than the standard rooms, the suite feels lighter, airier and altogether more comfortable — a noticeable upgrade that elevates the stay. The views over Sacré-Cœur are spectacular, particularly in the early morning light or as the city glows at dusk.

While the suite benefits from additional room to breathe, the building’s age is still present. Some areas feel slightly worn, and there was a faint dampness in the air that lingered despite the refreshed interiors. The recent renovation is evident in styling and finishes, but it doesn’t quite deliver the full transformation we were expecting.

That said, the added space makes a real difference. Comfortable seating, generous windows and a sense of separation allow the room to feel more like a Parisian apartment than a hotel room — and for us, that’s worth paying extra for. The bed was comfortable, linens crisp, and the atmosphere undeniably romantic with Paris unfolding below.

Bathrooms are modernised and functional rather than indulgent, but again, the scale of the suite helps offset some of the hotel’s more timeworn details.

FOOD & DRINK

One of Rochechouart’s standout features is its rooftop bar, Maggie Rooftop, which offers panoramic views across the Paris skyline. It’s an effortlessly chic spot for sunset drinks, drawing a stylish crowd of guests and locals alike — always a good indicator. The mood is lively without feeling chaotic, making it ideal for an aperitif that turns into a late evening.

Downstairs, the hotel’s brasserie serves classic French dishes with a contemporary touch. Breakfast is relaxed and unfussy — fresh pastries, quality coffee and a simple menu that does the job. That said, with Pigalle’s café scene right on your doorstep, venturing out is highly encouraged.

INSIDE INTEL

Location is where Hôtel Rochechouart truly excels. Pigalle is one of Paris’s most exciting neighbourhoods right now — up-and-coming, sexy and undeniably cool. Once known for its grit, it’s now home to some of the city’s best bars, restaurants and nightlife, attracting a fashion-forward, creative crowd.

You’re also within easy reach of Le Marais, another hotspot beloved by Paris’s chic set, known for its boutiques, galleries and effortless style. Being positioned between these two dynamic neighbourhoods makes Rochechouart an excellent base for those wanting to experience the city’s modern pulse.

Hôtel Rochechouart is best suited to travellers who prioritise location, atmosphere and views over pristine perfection. If space and comfort matter to you, we highly recommend upgrading — the penthouse suite offers a far more elevated experience and allows the hotel’s undeniable charm to truly come into its own. hidden gems and undiscovered bars, read our journal here
